The Vision of RCC

Our Vision:

Matthew 6:9–13 (NIV84)

“This, then, is how you should pray:
“ ‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’

"The gospel is less about how to get into the Kingdom of Heaven after you die, and more about how to live in the Kingdom of Heaven before you die.”
Dallas Willard

Our Mission:

Acts 2:42–47 (NIV)

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of
bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs
were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common.
Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they
continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate
together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And
the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Encounter. Formation. Mission.

What does RCC Believe?

The Gospel:

The Gospel is the good news that through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God has dealt decisively with sin, overcome death, and defeated Satan, making a way for all who believe to be forgiven, set free, made whole, and empowered to participate in the kingdom-mission of God.

The Apostle’s Creed

We believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
who was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was
crucified, died, and was buried.
The third day He arose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, whence He shall come
to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy (universal) church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of
sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.

Evangelical Statement of Faith:

We believe there is one God who lives eternally in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit— who love and glorify one another.

God the Father is the first Person of the three-person God, of whom the Son is eternally begottenand from whom the Holy Spirit eternally proceeds through the Son.

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, fully God and fully man.

We believe that the Holy Spirit is fully God, equal with the Father and Son.

We believe that the Bible is God’s revealed Word to us.

We believe that Satan was originally a great and good angel who rebelled against God

We believe that God made man — male and female — in His own image, as the crown of creation so that man might glorify Him through enjoying fellowship with Him.

We believe that the Gospel is the good news of what God has accomplished for us through the life, death, and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ.

We believe that the Kingdom of God, already present but not fully realized, is the exercise of God’s rule in the world toward the eventual redemption of all creation.

We believe that Christ’s primary call on our lives is to be a people who are centered on Him and seeking His Kingdom.

We believe that God is on a mission to demonstrate His love to His world through His Church, the Body of Christ,

We believe that the life of God comes to us through the Holy Spirit.

We believe that worship stands at the center of our life of faith.

RCC’s Beliefs on Sex, Marriage, & Gender

We believe that God created sex within marriage as a gift to humanity, given for procreation, intimacy, unity, and joy. In marriage, sex is an ongoing commitment and a physical expression of the covenant to become “one” as husband and wife. At its core, sex is good.

We affirm the historic Christian view of marriage as a covenant between one biological man and one biological woman. We believe that any sexual activity outside this covenant is sin and falls short of the purpose for which God created sex.

We recognize two genders: biological male and biological female. At the same time, we acknowledge that some people experience confusion about their gender identity, and in rare cases, gender dysphoria. To those who struggle in this way, our desire is to lovingly, patiently, and prayerfully walk alongside you. While we will not affirm or assign genders apart from biological male and female, we believe that submitting to God’s design is both loving and life-giving. We trust that God can bring healing and harmony between body, mind, and spirit

We do not impose these beliefs on anyone and warmly welcome those who may not share them. At RCC, questions, doubts, and dialogue are always welcome. We only ask two things of those who are part of our community:

• If you disagree with RCC’s beliefs, please do not use disagreement to sow division. Instead, we encourage you to ask questions and seek understanding in ways that honor others.

• Remember that you do not need to agree with every belief of your church in order to honor your church—and you will always be honored here, even if you hold different views.

Unified agreement with our statement of faith or social positions is not required to serve, join a City Group, or participate in the life of River City Church. However, unity and agreement are required for leadership. Those in teaching, group leadership, service leading, staff, elder, or ministry leadership roles must be able to confidently affirm and represent the beliefs of River City Church.

“In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In everything, love.”
St. Augustine
